Clothing: the Non-verbal communicator!
Herded together like sardines in a tin, uncomfortable from the unbearable humidity in the New York subway and agitated that the train was delayed for the third time that week, I found solace in listening to a group of ladies talking about the usual work day shenanigans. As their conversation turned to my favorite topic – fashion – my ears immediately perked up and I moved closer.
Lady A commented on her friends outfit alluding to the fact that she must be going somewhere special because she was so dressed up. Lady B, seemingly puzzled like myself, countered by saying that she was not going anywhere – adding that that was her usual attire for work. Lady A, responding in a manner which might have suggested that Lady B uttered profanity, shot back “who are you trying to impress at work?” Tight lipped and annoyed, I walked away before my thoughts got the best of me.
Hot chicks, here is my dilemma with the situation – have we lost sight of what it means to be presentable? Why is it that if you put yourself together it is seen as trying to get the attention of someone and not for the simple pleasure of yourself?
I have always approached fashion as my way of communicating to people, whom I might not have the opportunity to speak with. Clothing is my non-verbal communicator – it makes the statement I want it to, e.g. I am sexy, confident, successful, approachable and in charge. And as the CEO of my own company, it is extremely important for me to always be pulled together because I never know where or when I may meet my next client. If I am disheveled, it says that I am unorganized. That one bad day could cost me a client and with times being so hard, I can’t afford to loose a client.
Here it is in a nutshell and I’ll call it hot chick 101: “Clothing is the language in which you parade yourself before the public. Never allow your clothing to say something contrary to who you are.” As a hot chick, always dress for the position you want and not the position you have.

What Makes You Feel Sexy?
More than being told I am beautiful or pretty, I love being told “you are sexy”. I think sex appeal is something that takes time to develop – not something that we are born with. As women, we go through trial and error stages before we find what works for us. I spent most of my 20s “finding myself” so to speak and now I am happy to say that I am comfortable in my own skin.
I must say I am a creature of habit - I rarely try new products on the market, especially skin care products. If I find something that works for me I stick with it. It’s that old adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Listed below are 6 items, that I cannot live without, that makes me feel sexy:
1. |
Perfume. My absolute favorite fragrance in the world is Cabotine de Gres. The smell is very soft and feminine. |
2. |
Stilettos. Four inches or more please - the higher the better. I find that I walk, dance and sit differently when I am wearing a pair of super high stilettos. And for me that’s key since correct posture is necessary to exude sex appeal. |
3. |
Lip Gloss. I don’t wear lipstick so to give my lips a little color and have them looking absolutely kissable, I use lip gloss or a lip tint. |
4. |
Foundation. I never leave home without a little foundation. I don’t have to be fully made up with eye shadow or blush but I must have on foundation and lip gloss. My guilty pleasure – Make Up For Ever High Definition Foundation sold only at Sephora. |
5. |
Cocktail. A delicious cocktail can set the tone for a simple night out with friends or a dinner date with that special someone. Once your taste buds are stimulated the sky is the limit. This summer try a Pomergrante Martini or a flavored Mojito. |
6. |
Lingerie. It doesn’t matter what I am wearing – whether it is a pair of jeans, shorts or skirt - sexy underwear makes me feel as though I am dressed for the ball. Like stilettos, when my undergarments are comfortable and soft against my skin, my posture is influenced. |
My new mantra should is: “Sexy is as sexy does”. So never be afraid to experiment. Find your own items that bring out the hot chick in you. There is nothing wrong with having a sexy alter-ego. By all means name her – call her something vampy like Jenna or Nikki.

Pretty Hot Chick Spotlight: Naturi Naughton
Pretty Hot Chick: Before the world was introduced to you as “Lil Kim” in the movie Notorious, we remembered you as one of the members in the group 3LW. What exactly happened with that situation?
Naturi Naughton: I was 15 years old when I joined the group and left when I was 18. There were issues we had to deal with, on the business side as well as personal with the group. We broke up and after that, I focused on myself for a while.
PHC: Who are some of your favorite artists?
N.N.: I love Beyonce! I think she has so much talent. Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey have been inspirations for me growing up. I also like Alicia Keys and I think Angela Bassett is an amazing actress.
PHC: If you had to choose between acting and singing, which one would you pick?
N.N.: This is hard because I really don’t’ want to pick! I love acting. I love to sing, but I’m enjoying acting right now.
PHC: You were also on Broadway in the musical Hairspray, right?
N.N.:Yes, but unfortunately the show is now closed. I was in the show until October (2008), then had to leave to start filming the movie Notorious.
PHC: How was it playing Lil’ Kim in the movie?
N.N.:It was challenging because we come from two different backgrounds. I didn’t have a rough life growing up. She is hip hop. I am more R&B. It was totally different character from me, and I did my best to bring the rawness and sexiness of Lil' Kim to life.
PHC: Playing Lil’ Kim required a certain sex appeal that I believe you captured. How did you feel about doing the nude scenes in the movie?
N.N.: Playing Lil Kim definitely required a sexy side that I was not used to displaying, so it was definitely a challenge. It wasn't easy to prepare for the rawness and the intense sex scenes but I had the support of my director that we would capture that side of the character while making sure that I felt comfortable. I also wanted to make my portrayal of Lil Kim as raw as possible without sugar-coating the wild side of her...I decided to embrace every aspect of the character whether it be sexiness, vulnerability, or her raw hip hop edge. I had to embrace it all. -
PHC: Are you dating anyone?
N.N.: I have a boyfriend. He’s also in the industry, and that’s why I don’t really like talking about it. So much of ourselves is already exposed to the public, so I try to keep my personal life private.
PHC: Name three (3) things we can find in your handbag.
N.N.:For one, I always have my MAC Lip Shine lipgloss. I’ll also have my Sephora Body Butter hand crème and lastly I’ll have a pair of flip-flops! You know if you’ve had your heels on all night, especially if you go to the club - at the end of the night your feet might be hurting! (Laughs). That’s when the flip flops come in handy!
PHC: Tell us some beauty tips you use to keep your skin and hair looking healthy.
N.N.: I use Neutrogena's Facial Scrub for my skin and a really good moisturizer made by Dermalogica. For my hair I use Olive Oil's Cream Moisturizer. Every night I put a little on my hair and definitely a good amount around the edges. I try to keep my hair moisturized which keeps it from breaking.
PHC: When you get some free time, what do you enjoy doing?
N.N.:I like catching up on some TiVO, going to the movies, chilling…relaxing at home.
PHC: So what’s in the future for Naturi?
N.N.: Well I’m currently shooting the movie FAME coming out on September 25th. I play one of the lead characters called Denise. You can look out for me in more great roles in TV and film, growing and becoming a better actress. - Tia Price

Recession Proof Entertaining
So what there’s a recession! Does this mean life, as you know it, has to end? Of course not! It just means that you, the fabulous chick that you are, have to come up with creative ways to still have fun - on a budget. But if the word “budget” scares you because you have always been one to buy impulsively, here are some ways to host – yes host – the perfect girl’s night “in”.
(1) Light the candles. Whoever said candles are only for those romantic evenings with your beau; (2) create a playlist, on your iPod, that you and your equally fabulous girls can jam to; (3) rent a comedy. Laughter is the best medicine; (4) don’t be shy about asking each of the girls to bring a snack. Be it chips, popcorn, cheese and crackers etc. Suggest that the cost does not exceed $15.00 and (5) create a specialty drinks. Use what you already have at home and name it something fun like “recession ‘tini”.
Now you are on your way - great ambiance, groovy music, delicious snacks and alcohol. These are the makings of a great party recession style. Cost to you - $5-10; memories – priceless. - Stacey Bethel , Triple 7 Entertainment |

3 Ways to Get What You Want in Life!
We all want happiness, love, money, family, good health...but what is the strategy to get those things? Most of us work really hard for everything we have and some wonder if there is an easier way…I use Feng Shui.
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art which utilizes Chi, the energy in your environment, to balance and enhance things by specifically placing objects around you to support you in reaching your goals.
So why waste all your energy if you can use a mirror, a lamp or an image to do the job for you?
Whether you think you are in a good place, or you're wondering how to get there, a few Feng Shui tips can help you clear the way to getting what you want.
Remove clutter: Clutter creates stagnant energy and prohibits energy flow. Since most of your energy is tied up in the clutter in your environment, it only weights you down. It keeps you stuck in the energy pf the past and contributes to obstacles and frustrations. Enable the energy to move freely through your environment by clearing out things that are no longer relevant to your life.
Pay attention to pictures and objects in your space. Pictures on your wall are speaking to you constantly. Do you have pictures that denote sadness, loneliness, violence, fatigue or do you have images that speak of dreams, abundance, vitality, peace and harmony? It is also valid for objects around you…It is important not to keep broken objects as well as they carry that energy. So having pictures and objects that speak positively to you will surround you with that energy.
Have only what you love around you. Everything in your environment holds an energy that either supports you or drains you. Take away things you do not absolutely love and the rest will support you. If you don’t like something, release it even if it was a gift. Surround yourself with things you love to bring more of that which you love into your life.

Dig This!
Ok, we all know about the Chris Brown/Rihanna saga. Damn! But who are we to judge? We've all been in a relationship that had gotten rather heated...one accusing the other of this or that, when they are really the ones doing the dirt or just straight up insecure; or one confronts the other over what he/she has seen, heard or perceived. Then, after all the madness you decide to either give him a second chance or simply say "Good-bye baby "! I can relate unfortunately, but honey that is a story best left unsaid and in the past. Bottomline: At the end of the day, if you feel that you must exchange verbally abusive language, strike or even brace yourself for an attack, walk away immediately! Or, deal with the consequences of your actions. No one is worth the damage to your mind, body or spirit. Ya know what I mean?! I'm just saying...!

The Astrological Profile of a Hot Chick!
By Lloyd Strayhorn
What makes a hot chick?! Is a state of mind?! Is it an attitude?! Is it simply the way you carry or project your self?! What the stars have to say, in addition and how you use its cosmic influence to best advantage is the name of the astrological Hot Chick game. Be sure to pick up your copy of The Pretty Thoughts of a Hot Chick for your particular affirmation.

Aries, talk about hot! You’re not assigned the element of “Fire” in the zodiac for nothing. You have a way of turning up the temperature, heating things up. That explains your confident, sassy and sexy approach to life. Your attitude and the way you live and love suggest they better know what they’re doing before coming on to you. You’re a straight shooter and you get to the point. Sexually. . .your candidness is really a “turn-on”. When it comes to the where, when and how to be pleased, you’re hotter than hot! Intense by nature, whether in the bedroom or boardroom, you display your hotness with style, energy and eagerness. It’s exciting! Like fine wine, your hotness gets more beautiful with time. Capricorn Hot Chick: Kerry Washington

Your uniqueness is the secret to your hotness. You have a flair about you that gets notice in most unexpected places and in the most unexpected ways. To say the least, your show of hotness towards life and that lovey of yours, is usually and oftentimes, unconventional. You like doing things outside the box, totally different from the norm - that’s why you’ll able to fan the flames to rave reviews on the scale of hotness. You’ll always want do things your way! You’re able to tap into the sensitivities and emotional depths of your mate, leaving loving memories! Your mouth-watering smile and body language speaks volumes across the board. And because you’re ruled by the emotional element of water you can feel when it’s time to go hot or not. No one, but no one can be more irresistible as you. The Hot List!
12 things I’ve learned from my relationships with men …
- Good listening skills are an absolute must!
- Not everyone or every situation is at it seems.
- Never allow your love for a man to outweigh your love for self!
- With any disagreements, fights, disappointments or breakups you’re bruised never broken. As with any pain, it too shall pass.
- If you truly pay attention, he is constantly revealing his true self to you.
- Intelligence is not synonymous with common sense.
- If he cannot accept responsibility for his actions, let him go!
- Indifference coupled with silence is more effective than any harsh words, shouting or repetitive declarations.
- A man’s love is not defined by what he pays for, the laundry he does or the number of times he cooks or cleans, but by how he treats you and himself.
- If he is not secure within himself and has unrealized dreams, he will constantly seek your praise and approval.
- Love and lust must co-exist, because there should be no such thing as “the thrill is gone.”
- Without integrity there is no love. Without trust, there is no peace.

PRETTY SECRETS
6 Quick Tips to Enhance Your Beauty!
By Aaron Tabor, MD, CEO and author of The Revival Slim & Beautiful Diet (www.revivaldiet.com)
Fight wrinkles from the inside out: Topical creams are only 50% of what you could be doing to fight wrinkles. The other 50% starts inside with a beauty vitamin containing olive fruit extract, kiwi seed extract, lutein, green tea, and lycopene to boost collagen levels from within. Antioxidant rich soy protein shakes and bars are a great way to support beautiful-looking skin, hair, and nails too.
Choose low-glycemic foods: Low-glycemic foods won’t cause rapid rises in blood sugar. This is important because high blood sugar causes your collagen and elastin to “clump” together. This clumping prevents the normal renewal cycle of your skin.
Get to sleep before 11 pm: Human skin cells naturally renew their fastest at 11 pm because of our built in rhythms that God designed. If you are in bed resting, it will enhance this natural renewal cycle!
Exfoliate often: Exfoliation not only removes dull, dead skins cells to reveal a glow, but also stimulates collagen production. Exfoliate two to three times weekly, but beware of scrubs with sharp fruit seeds that can create micropunctures in your skin.
Reduce stress: Chronic stress causes your skin to thin and hair to drop out. Prayer and mediation while walking are great ways to reduce stress while polishing your glow with exercise.
Avoid cigarette smoke: Even second hand smoke destroys your collagen, so avoid it at all times.

Radiate Hotness!
The 6 essentials for feeling sexy in your skin.
By Alicia Marie Rivers
A hot chick is not born, she’s created! She is so fabulously comfortable in her own skin that she draw others to them. She projecs an aura that makes people see her as charming, mysterious and desirable. From the new book, The Pretty Thoughts of a Hot Chick: Foxy Little Notions for our Minds, Bodies & Souls (available at www.iuniverse.com), here are some of my effective tips on letting your own allure shine through:
Hot Chick Secret 1 – Resist the urge to trash yourself or any woman. The notion, “If I lost 10 more pounds then I would be…” or “I hate my…” should stop immediately because what you focus on the most becomes your reality. For example, if you only think and complain about how much you hate what you believe to be a certain flaw then you will attract people who will only see your perceived flaw. But, if your keep your mouth closed and your mind focused on your terrific attributes, then your insecurities will diminish and you will see your own beauty. More so, although putting down another woman’s appearance may make you feel temporarily superior, in actuality you’re more likely to see imperfections in yourself. Not to mention, you’d look catty and unconfident. Instead, praise your positive traits as well as those of other women.
Hot Chick Secret 2 – Showcase your hottest assets. A truly self-assured woman has oodles of body pride and is never shy about highlighting her goods! Ladies, by showing off your best qualities, it helps shape the way you see yourself. Consider this. When you’ve gone on job interviews or on dates, you put your best look forward. So why should it be any different when dressing for any other occasion or just for you?
Hot Chick Secret 3 – Surrender to pleasure. Remember the last time you were in ecstasy? Whether it was during a delicious meal, relaxing bath, glorious massage or steamy sex, your attention was on the physical bliss. Simply put, when you focus on what makes you feel good through touch, taste, aroma or sound, you tune into your sensual side. This causes a euphoric state of mind that leads to a mood of complete satisfaction. Even small things like regular manicures and pedicures, getting your hair done, spraying on your favorite fragrance or slipping on your scented body lotion will amp up your physical gratification level.
Hot Chick Secret 4 –You are who you think you are…live it and breathe it! Perception is reality and how the world views you are by your hands and your choice. Remember, if you believe it, they will!
Hot Chick Secret 5 – Combine the lady with the vamp. Your mother and grandmother were right about having the proper etiquette. But, what your father knows is that every woman has a sex kitten persona that she reveals only at the right moments. Hey, it is far more intriguing and mystifying when both co-exist. Think of Michelle Obama, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Beyonce, Rihanna, Eva Mendes, Angela Bassett, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz. So smile, mind your manners and enjoy your womanliness as well as your sexuality.
Hot Chick Secret 6 - Be your lover for life. Create a never-ending romance with yourself by caring and nurturing your mind, body and soul. For example, write yourself a love letter or poem, treat yourself to an exotic getaway or buy yourself flowers once a week. When you spoil yourself, the very essence of who you are is strengthened, fulfilled and powerful.

Hey hot chicks!
Destiny's Child may be back......but not on purpose!
The mulitple grammy-winning group Destiny's Child - Beyonce, Kelly, and Michelle, may
have to give their fans another album despite their split in 2005 that left us all
sad and in denial. Alledgedly the Independent Women owe their long time record label
another album according to their contract. But a renunion maybe what Kelly and
Michelle need to get their solo careers back on track.
Kelly first solo album Simply Deep sold 2.5 million worldwide, but was more
successful in the UK. Unforunately Her Second Album, Ms.Kelly Didn't meet the
same success. Rumors of Kelly being fired by Mathew Knowles and being dropped as a
solo act from Columbia were flying high, but Kelly quickly cleared it all up by
stating that she just wanted to explore new directions and her and Matthew came to a
mutual understanding. I personally think that it was the best thing to do because
its obvious that as a solo artist Columbia was not doing her justice as they did
with Beyonce solo career. I do think great things are in store for Ms Kelly.
As for Michelle, She needs the renunion the most. Yeah her solo album Heart to Yours
was the biggest gospel album in 2002, but it only sold 300,000 copies, and her second
gopsel album Do You Know only sold 78,000 copies. Michelle tried her hand at acting
on hit shows such as Half and Half and in Oprah's Chicago-based hit Broadway
musical the Color Purple in which she recieved positive and good reviews on. Once
again, she released another solo album, which was R&B this time, Unexpected, which so
far sold 200,000 copies. Yeah Michelle has a unique voice and it woked as a
distintive member of DC and it really worked in the Gospel genre, But I like
Michelle best at acting. Let's see, can we get her on the movie side???
Got a tip or ya just want to vent,

An Environmental Approach to Total-Body Wellness
By Sylvie Beljanski
Since the end of WWII the output of chemical molecules into the environment has risen drastically. Many of these toxic molecules find their way into the body through the various products that many people use daily, including skincare and household products. In fact, a study done by the Environmental Working Group found that the majority of the products sold in the United States fails to meet one or more industry cosmetics safety standards.
Environmental toxins find their way into our bodies countless ways, and in many cases cannot be avoided. They are abundant in the food that we eat and the products that we use. Milk contains growth hormones that are given to the cows, fish are notorious for their high levels of mercury, and fruits and vegetables are covered in pesticides that do not come off when washed with water, which is itself contaminated.
The study of environmental medicine began in the 1960s when scientists began to examine the correlation between disease and the environment. During this time, one scientist worked to show how environmental toxins damage our health at the very core of our cells, in our DNA. Mirko Beljanski, Ph.D., a biologist and biochemist, worked for over 40 years at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France studying DNA replication and transcription. It was this research that brought to light the fact that pollution in the environment is negatively affecting our DNA.
Dr. Beljanski discovered that the normal structure of DNA is altered when exposed to pollutants in the environment. He showed that, when the DNA of a cell becomes destabilized, it may lead to chronic disease and other major ailments, including cancer. Mirko Beljanski showed that DNA destabilization is a cumulative process that is influenced by the level and frequency of our contact with harmful molecules that damage DNA structure. In so doing, Beljanski became the father of modern environmental medicine.
Today, the practice of environmental medicine aims to treat disease by addressing the causes of an illness, not simply trying to eliminate its symptoms. It is referred to as the “total load” concept, which is what Mirko Beljanski’s research established in the 1960s. According to the American Association of Environmental Medicine, “the total load concept postulates that multiple and chronic environmental exposures in a susceptible individual contribute to a breakdown of that person’s homeostatic mechanisms. Rarely is there only one offending agent responsible for causing a diseased condition” (www.aaemonline.org).
Now that it has been proven by research scientists such as Beljanski that the environment is indeed damaging to our health, we should look to our healthcare practitioners to take an environmental approach to total body wellness. The idea is to be aware of the toxins in the environment, and to look for ways to fortify the body against these aggressive molecules that cause DNA destabilization.
Avoid molecules that are known to be harmful by making sure to buy organic food and natural products free of dangerous preservatives. You should also steer clear of foods that are proven to be harmful to your health, such as refined sugar, caffeine and trans fats. A proper diet is essential to maintaining healthy body function and energy levels.
However, this only goes so far and it is inevitable that toxins will enter your body. The second step is to therefore remove the harmful molecules through natural detoxification methods such as chelation, which helps remove heavy metal buildup, or by taking supplements to help support the liver’s function. These are important because toxin buildup can have significant effects on your physical wellbeing, such as headaches, weakness and fatigue. Detoxification is one of the best ways to remain healthy in a polluted and toxic environment. Unexplained headaches or back pain, memory failing, brittle nails and hair and frequent allergies are all signs that pollutants are effecting your health.
One of the benefits of detoxification is that liver, kidney, and blood purification can take place--which wouldn’t occur during regular eating patterns. Other advantages include stimulation of the immune system, improvement in skin, a rise in energy levels and, most importantly, improved cellular health at the level of the DNA.
Despite a growing “Green” movement, we are polluting our environment more and more every day and it’s not only making the earth sick, it’s making us sick too. It is time to take an environmental approach to health by looking at our surroundings and getting rid of the toxins that are making us sick, not just taking another pill to numb the symptoms.
Sylvie Beljanski is the President of Natural Source International, Ltd.
(www.natural-source.com), which offers dietary supplements stemming from her father’s lifetime of research at the Pasteur Institute in France. She is overseeing the development of the Beljanski Wellness Center (www.beljanskiwellness.com) in New York and speaks at conferences across the country about the importance of environmental medicine and serious detoxification. |

How Everyday Products are Dangerous to Your Health
By Sylvie Beljanski
Since the end of WWII the output of chemical molecules into the environment has risen drastically. Today, these toxins find their way into our bodies every day, and in many cases cannot be avoided. Recent studies have linked these toxins to numerous common diseases like cancer, respiratory disorders, autism and birth defects.
Environmental medicine was born in the 1960s. During this time, one scientist worked to show how environmental toxins damage our health at the very core of our cells, in our DNA. Mirko Beljanski, Ph.D., a biologist and biochemist, worked for over 40 years at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France studying DNA destabilization. It was this research that provided the scientific explanation of how pollution in the environment is negatively affecting our DNA, as well as the cumulative effect of those toxins on our bodies as we keep absorbing them.
Although these toxins are everywhere, you can reduce your contact with them by familiarizing yourself with the risks. Here are some of the most prevalent toxins that you need to know about:
Bisphenol A
Bisphenol A, or BPA, is a compound used in plastics and can be found in a wide variety of products from baby bottles to dental sealants. The problem is that BPA can seep out of the plastic, especially when it comes into contact with hot food. BPA has been suspected of being hazardous to health since the 1930s, yet is still produced in millions of tons annually, despite emerging studies supporting this theory. According to The Economist, since 1997 “over 100 scientific studies have linked low doses of BPA to prostate and breast cancer, reproductive abnormalities, accelerated puberty in females, low sperm count in males, neurological effects similar to ADHD, diabetes and even obesity.”1
The chemical industry continues to downplay the risks of BPA, stating that “the weight of scientific evidence clearly supports the safety of BPA and provides strong reassurance that there is no basis for human health concerns from exposure to BPA.”2 Clearly, it is up to the consumer to do their own research, and make changes in their lifestyle to avoid this compound by buying food containers that are glass, not plastic, and contacting your state representatives about banning the use of BPA in consumer products.
Phthalates
Another chemical to be aware of are phthalates, which are plasticizers that give plastic flexibility. Phthalates are everywhere, from children’s toys to personal care products that are applied directly to the skin. Recent studies are confirming that phthalates act as endocrine disruptors, which change normal hormone levels and can cause birth defects.
The Environmental Working Group warns that “epidemiology studies consistently linked these chemicals to birth defects in baby boys, reproductive problems in men and thyroid problems in both men and women.”3 Sadly, phthalates are so widely used that it would be all but impossible to avoid them entirely. However, you can make an effort to read ingredients and avoid plastics where possible, especially if you are pregnant of have small children.
Parabens
Parabens (methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl) are used in the vast majority of cosmetic products as synthetic chemical preservatives. Julie Deardorff of the Chicago Tribune writes that “studies have shown that some parabens can mimic the activity of the hormone estrogen in the body's cells. Estrogenic activity in the body is associated with certain forms of breast cancer. And parabens are turning up in breast tumors.”4 Companies claim that preservatives are necessary to prevent the growth of microorganisms in cosmetic products, but this is for products that go through months of shipping from factories in China to the United States, then sit on store shelves potentially for years and, in some cases, endure extreme temperature conditions.
It takes little effort to choose natural cosmetics that are not mass produced and therefore don’t need harsh chemical preservatives. These products use natural preservatives that are not dangerous to health yet still prevent the growth of microorganisms.
The best thing that you can do for your own health is to educate yourself about the products you use. Read the labels, if you can’t pronounce it, don’t put it on your body! Avoid plastics around your food, especially soft, disposable ones and never heat them up in the microwave. Most importantly, pay attention to the studies that are coming out about the dangers that environmental toxins pose to your health. The industry will not regulate itself willingly- it is up to you to be aware and make healthy choices.
Sylvie Beljanski is the President of Natural Source International, Ltd.
(www.natural-source.com), which offers dietary supplements stemming from her father’s lifetime of research at the Pasteur Institute in France. She is overseeing the development of a preservative-free line of skincare and mineral makeup products called French Secret™ (www.frenchsecretinc.com) and speaks at conferences across the country about the importance of environmental medicine and serious detoxification.

Safe and Effective Detoxification the Natural Way
By: Melissa Burchill, R.D., CDN
Thanks to the research of the late biochemist and biologist Mirko Beljanski, PhD, who worked for 40 years studying DNA destabilization at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, we now know that environmental pollution actually damages the DNA structure, causing disease. He later discovered natural herbal extracts that support the body’s natural defense system, creating the conditions for normal physiological functioning and, to some extent, reinforcing the immune system’s natural ability to eliminate or neutralize undesirable cells.
Harmful toxins are present in the air we breathe, foods we eat, and water we drink, according to the EPA. If these toxins cannot be destroyed by our digestive enzymes, detoxified by the liver or eliminated by the immune system, we need to take the appropriate, effective supplements that will restore the body and strengthen immunity while assisting it in proper digestion and detoxification.
Antioxidants, particularly Vitamins A, C, and E, bioflavonoids and proanthocyanidins will help to protect the body from the ubiquitous free radicals that cause cellular damage, by building the body and preventing further damage. The most natural vitamin supplement is extracted from whole foods with all parts intact, thereby increasing its protective and preventative effects.
To enhance digestive assimilation of nutrients, improve immune strength, as well as inhibit the growth of food borne bacteria or micro organisms, probiotics are recommended to effectively detoxify. The most effective supplement will have a highly stabilized, multi-strain bacteria that can withstand the internal environment of your body on the way to their destination. A multi-strained bacteria formula accelerates the therapeutic benefits. DDS-1 Lactobaccilus acidophilus, developed by the leading probiotic authority, Dr. Khem Shahani, is the only stabilized form of this strain of bacteria available. To enhance the effectiveness of this probiotic, a prebiotic in the form of Jerusalum Artichoke, also known as fructoligosaccharides, is be added.
Enzymes are often referred to as the ‘life force” as they are responsible for regulating digestion, immune system function, cardiovascular function, and all other metabolic processes within the body. Because different foods need different enzymes to be broken down such as proteases for protein, lipase for fat, etc., the best supplement will provide a wide variety of pure enzymes.
Every successful detoxification regimen should include a method for colon cleansing as well. Instead of harsh laxatives as used in many regimens, a natural colon cleansing product will consist of all natural botanical “detoxifiers”, Ayurvedic herbs and stool eliminators, as well as nutrients that support the colonic lining.
A detoxification plan would not be complete without addressing the liver. Take a formula that contains nutrients known to enhance intracellular levels of glutathione, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase (SOD)-crucian antioxidants that protects hepathocytes and help detoxify foreign substances. The balance of supportive nutrients make this product suitable to help strengthen the liver against everyday assaults on liver function.
To detoxify the body of heavy metal toxicity, Humifulvate®, a Hungarian peat extract, has proven very effective. It has been known to reduce mercury, lead, and cadmium levels in people by binding the harmful metals in the intestinal tract without draining the body of the healthy minerals it needs. Signature Chelate, a new proprietary oral chelation formula, is a combination of Humifulvate®, Chlorella, Chitosan and glutathione; creating one of the most comprehensive detoxification products available on the market. The supplement works to trap toxins and heavy metals to reduce the overall toxic burden on the body while glutathione provides support to other organs and extracellular antioxidant action.
Today, Mirko Beljanski’s daughter, Sylvie Beljanski, has created a line of dietary supplements called Targetage® (www.targetage.com) which continues his approach to wellness by addressing the damage inflicted on our DNA by environmental toxins. Targetage® is a comprehensive line of supplements that will effectively help eliminate toxins, revitalize and rebuild cells, and support the health of the body. It has been carefully designed to provide the highest quality natural ingredients possible. These ingredients include whole food sources of vitamins, proven herbal formulations, enzymes necessary for digestive health, highly stabilized probiotics, and amino acid-chelated minerals with the highest absorption rate.
The Targetage® line also includes products that combine all natural herbal blends of Black walnut Hull, Wormwood, Grapefruit Seed extract, Olive Leaf, Pau d’Arco, Black Cumin Seed, and Garlic to effectively target environmental toxins and aid the body in getting rid of them. Since contact with toxins is virtually unavoidable in today’s polluted world, taking high-quality supplements to promote they body’s own ability to detox is the best way to maintain optimal health.
